When Dr. Buddy isn’t perfecting his patients’ smiles with Greer and Simpsonville, SC Invisalign and braces treatment, you can find him spending time with his family. While he’s a big fan of staying active and enjoying the outdoors, sometimes, during the South Carolina summer you just need to beat the heat. An air-conditioned movie theater is the perfect place to do just that, which got us thinking about all of the films opening this year. With four young children, Dr. Buddy and his wife are always on the lookout for family-friendly flicks and today, we’re sharing the ones we’re most excited about here at Davis Orthodontics. Here’s our guide to 2018 family-friendly movies for those rainy or scorching hot days:

Incredibles 2 – Rated PG, Opens June 15, 2018 – We’re so excited that our favorite superhero family is back! Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2 is definitely one of the most anticipated family movies opening in 2018. Mr. Incredible, also known as Bob, stays home and has his hands full caring for the kids and facing the challenges of “normal” life, while his wife is out fighting crime. In the midst of it all, baby Jack-Jack’s superpowers begin to develop. Eventually, they have to join forces with Frozone to defeat a new villain and, of course, fun and action ensue.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – Rated PG-13, Opens June 22, 2018 – The latest film in the Jurassic World franchise is rated PG-13, so it’s suited to families with teenagers. Since a lot of our patients are teens, we thought they’d like a movie suggestion too. Plus, when it comes to summer 2018 movies, this one has a lot of buzz. In the film, it’s been three years since the theme park and resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs and now the island is abandoned. However, the dormant volcano on the island starts rumbling back to life. Owen, played by Chris Pratt, and Claire, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, don’t want the dinosaurs to become extinct once again, so they go on an action-filled mission to save the island. They must also try to thwart a conspiracy plot they uncover along the way.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation – PG, Opens July 13, 2018 – Another of the summer 2018 child-friendly movies featuring familiar faces is Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Mavis will be back on the big screen and this time she surprises Dracula with a family trip on the Monster Cruise Ship. The whole gang tags along and things are going swimmingly until Dracula meets the mysterious Ericka, the ship’s captain, and sparks fly. Mavis thinks the romance is too good to be true and she may be right when they find out who Ericka really is.

Teen Titans Go! to the Movies – Rated PG, Opens July 27, 2018 – The popular animated Teen Titans Go! television series will be making its debut in theaters, adding another film to our list of must-see family-friendly movies to watch this summer. The Teen Titans are on a quest for Hollywood fame and try to attract the attention of a famous director. Unfortunately, they get sidetracked by a villain’s plan for world domination. The series regulars will be reprising their roles and Will Arnett and Kristen Bell will also be lending their voices to the film.

Christopher Robin – Rated PG, Opens on August 3, 2018 – Inspired by the classic Winnie-the-Pooh, Disney’s Christopher Robin is a live-action movie starring Ewan McGregor as a grown-up Christopher Robin. He’s in a rut and has forgotten about his friends. But, have no fear because Pooh and his buddies travel from Hundred Acre Wood to our world to help Christopher Robin rediscover life’s joys and the kid he once was. This isn’t just one of the best summer 2018 movies for kids, it’s perfect for the whole family.

Smallfoot – Rated G, Opening September 28 – We’re looking forward to this family movie opening in fall. The animated film features original music and plenty of humor. It’s about a Yeti named Migo, played by Channing Tatum, who encounters a mythical “smallfoot” creature (a human). It throws the Yeti community into an uproar. Curious, Migo ventures out to discover more humans and forms friendships in the process.

The Grinch – Not Yet Rated, Opening November 9 – The Grinch will kick-off the 2018 family-friendly movies for the holiday season. The Grinch, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, wants to steal Christmas and ruin it for the residents of Whoville when they decide to make the holiday three times bigger than ever before. The animated flick promises to be visually stunning and will be a funny, heartwarming tale about the spirit of Christmas.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 – Not Yet Rated, Opening November 21 – In this animated sequel to Disney’s 2012 hit, Ralph and his buddy Vanellope have to venture inside the Internet through a Wi-Fi router in Litwak’s Arcade to get the piece they need to fix Sugar Rush. They come across all sorts of adventures, new characters and even algorithms. The cast includes big names in comedy like John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch.

Mary Poppins Returns – Not Yet Rated, Opening December 25 – Rounding out the 2018 family-friendly movies is Mary Poppins Returns, which will open on Christmas day. The musical, featuring Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, pays homage to the original but will have new songs and a fresh score. It’s set in the 1930s and now Mary Poppins’ former charges, Jane and Michael Banks, are grown-ups. Michael still lives in his childhood home with three kids of his own. When he needs Mary’s help, she comes back with her cousin Topsy (Meryl Streep) and street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame). Kids will love the whimsical story and it will be nostalgic for parents who grew up on the original.
